QU and UoAberdeen Organize AI Symposium

The CSE department at QU has organized an online mini AI symposium in collaboration with the computer science (CS) department at the university of Aberdeen (UoA), UK in September 2020. The event focused on showcasing the research work related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in both departments. More than 35 faculty members from both sides attended the event. Dr. Abdulla Al-Ali, the head of the department, and Prof. Nir Oren, the head of CS department at UoA have opened the event with welcoming remarks.

Then six professors from both sides have presented their ongoing research work, applying AI in different fields. From our department, Dr. Wadha Labda talked about applications of AI for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, then Dr. Tamer Elsayed talked about applications of AI in detecting fake news, and finally Prof. Sumaya Al-Maadeed talked about applications of AI in computer vision. The event also included 4 breakout sessions focusing on AI-related subareas: Network systems and Cybersecurity, Robotics and computer vision, Big data and knowledge representation, and Theory of AI and machine learning. The focus of the breakout sessions was to discuss the potential collaborations between the two departments in these areas, capitalizing on the resources, and funding opportunities at both sides.
