Computing Club Organizes Cyber Week

The QU Computing Club has organized the Cyber Week that virtually took place on September 21st and 23rd. The event was curated for the purpose of increasing the awareness of cybercrime risks, and introducing the members of the club to the cyber security field and practical attacks.

The first day featured two keynote speakers. Dr. Abdelkarim Erradi, the CS Program Coordinator in our department, has introduced the field of Cyber Security to the members. Eng. Lina, a CSE graduate and current MSc student at HBKU, then presented “Prediction and Analysis of Cyber Security State in the Future”, which explained briefly how to integrate block chain technology with cyber security.

On the second day, Dr. Gabriele Oligeri from HBKU gave his keynote on “Practical Attacks: Wireless Keyboard Security and GPS Spoofing” that addressed the active grants which include smart-grid cybersecurity, physical layer security for IoT, GPS Spoofing detection and Encrypted network traffic analysis. Dr. Gabriele had also shed the light on the challenges of GPS spoofing detection and how they can be resolved by cellular networks.

The success of the cyber week, portrayed in the large number of attendees and participants that showed immense interest and enthusiasm, has led to a high rating of 4.5 out of 5 in the feedback of the participants of the event.
