Kevin Andrew Lynch, Born on 1918\u00a0in Chicago, Illinois,Died on 1984 Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Was an American urban planner\u00a0and author. His most influential books include\u00a0The Image of the City\u00a0(1960) and\u00a0What Time is This Place?\u00a0(1972).\u00a0Lynch studied at\u00a0Yale University<\/a>,\u00a0Taliesin (studio)<\/a>\u00a0under\u00a0Frank Lloyd Wright<\/a>,\u00a0Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute<\/a>, and received a Bachelor’s degree in city planning from\u00a0MIT<\/a>\u00a0in 1947.<\/p>\n

The Image of City \u2013 Date of publish:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lynch’s most famous work,\u00a0The Image of the City\u00a0published in 1960 by The M.I.T. s the result of a five-year study on how observers take in information of the city.\u00a0 Using three disparate cities as examples (Boston, Jersey City, and Los Angeles), Lynch reported that users understood their surroundings in consistent and predictable ways, forming mental maps.<\/p>\n
