He mourned the loss of structures built to human scale. What exactly were the qualities of the cities that he admired that modern-day architects incorporate through their designs? Sitte armed with a sketchbook and went on a careful study of these built environment. The result was a little book named <em>The Art of Building Cities.\u00a0(1)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.qu.edu.qa\/ha1003881\/files\/2014\/03\/189933_orig.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-276\" alt=\"189933_orig\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.qu.edu.qa\/ha1003881\/files\/2014\/03\/189933_orig.jpg\" width=\"273\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(3)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong>\u00a01889<\/p>\n<p><strong>Period:\u00a0<\/strong>Modernisation<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There was a connection between what Sitte thought of plazas and public spaces in old cities with Leis Mumford&#8217;s, William Whyte&#8217;s and Jane Jacob&#8217;s. They all appreciated the disorderly street life.\u00a0(1)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;New cities no longer have a distinct character. Ideas and tastes have been mingled as the people themselves have been interchanged.
