Computing Club Organizes AI Week

Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Ali (Assistant Professor in the CSE Department, and Director of KINDI Center for Computing Research) participated in the AI Week event organized by the Computing Club at Qatar University by giving a talk titled: “Machine Learning: the good, the bad, and the unexpected” with an audience of more than 80 students and attendees. The talk covered: basic principles of supervised Machine Learning; what is inside the “black box” by demonstrating a few examples of simple yet effective algorithms; what to consider when training an algorithm; and how machine learning affects our lives today. The talk covered recent success stories, the culture machine learning has left on industries and researchers today, and concluded with the lessons learned and what to look for as we march forward in this data-driven era.

HoD and Coordinators met with CSE Students

CSE Head of Department Dr. Abdullah Al-Ali organized a meeting with CSE students on Wednesday 27 January 2021 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. The aim was to make the students aware of whom to contact for assistance. He clarified the role of the Head of Department, the Program Coordinators and the Academic Advisers. Also, he reminded the students about the importance of following their study plan for timely graduation. Additionally, he highlighted the important differences between Computer Engineering and Computer Science programs, possible specializations, and career opportunities.

Dr. Shaban and Dr. Abualsaud awarded in cycle 13 of NPRP-S

Two faculty members from out CSE department, Dr. Khaled Shaban and Dr. Khalid Abualsaud have been awarded two research grants as Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has announced the awardees for the 13th cycle of its flagship National Priorities Research Program-Standard track (NPRP-S). NPRP is the main funding program of QNRF that can help Qatar to address the grand challenges outlined in the Qatar National Research Strategy. QNRF awarded 75 projects from 10 institutions across Qatar in this cycle. The awarded projects focus on proposing innovative solutions to challenges faced in 4 priority areas, which are energy and environment, biomedical and health, computer science and ICT, and social sciences, arts, and humanities.
