Qatar’s team involving 2 CSE students, Maria Rauf Mahsood and Khamrunnisa Pazhayakath, claimed the ‘Outstanding Performance Award’ in the Middle East finals of Huawei ICT competition that was held on the 26th of December 2020.
The three members of the team had earlier won the top 3 places in the national qualification stage of the competition, in which 112 students from 7 local universities participated. Maria came first and Khamrunnisa came third.
The regional version of the competition was held virtually this time due to the social distancing measures. The competition witnessed the participation of 20 ministries and government authorities, and received 15,000 entries from 440 local colleges and universities in 10 Middle-East countries. 13 teams were finally competing in the Middle East finals. In addition to the former award claimed by the Qatari team, Qatar University won the ‘Excellent Academy Award’. All winning teams received special certificates and trophies presented virtually by local Huawei representatives. More information can be found in the media coverage of the competition.
