CSE faculty co-edited new Springer book

Prof. Abdelaziz Bouras and Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Ali co-edited a new Springer book on “Data Analytics for Cultural Heritage – Current Trends and Concepts”. The book highlights challenges and solutions related to the improvement of the
data acquisition, data enrichment, and data management processes in the cultural heritage data lifecycle pipeline
. It mainly focuses on the use of advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies with an emphasis on recent applications related to deep learning for visual recognition, generative models, natural language processing and super-resolution.

CSE PhD Candidate Receives Best Doctoral Consortium Paper Award at International Conference

Best Doctoral Consortium Paper Award collected by CSE PhD student Marwa Essam

Marwa Essam, a Computer Science PhD candidate in our CSE department, supervised by Dr. Tamer Elsayed, has received the “Best Doctoral Consortium Paper Award”, based on her paper that summarizes her PhD proposal, at the 43rd European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR 2021) that was just held last week. ECIR is one of the top conferences in the IR field, and is ranked at the “A” level in the CORE conference ranking.

Dr. Shaban and Dr. Abualsaud awarded in cycle 13 of NPRP-S

Two faculty members from out CSE department, Dr. Khaled Shaban and Dr. Khalid Abualsaud have been awarded two research grants as Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has announced the awardees for the 13th cycle of its flagship National Priorities Research Program-Standard track (NPRP-S). NPRP is the main funding program of QNRF that can help Qatar to address the grand challenges outlined in the Qatar National Research Strategy. QNRF awarded 75 projects from 10 institutions across Qatar in this cycle. The awarded projects focus on proposing innovative solutions to challenges faced in 4 priority areas, which are energy and environment, biomedical and health, computer science and ICT, and social sciences, arts, and humanities.

CSE students awarded in Huawei Middle East ICT Competition 2020

Qatar’s team in the finale of the Huawei Middle East ICT Competition 2020

Qatar’s team involving 2 CSE students, Maria Rauf Mahsood and Khamrunnisa Pazhayakath, claimed the ‘Outstanding Performance Award’ in the Middle East finals of Huawei ICT competition that was held on the 26th of December 2020.

Dr. Tamer Elsayed, Dr. Khaled Shaban, and Ms. Abeer Al-Marridi (a CE PhD Candidate) have given three research talks at the Research Outcome Seminar titled “Artificial Intelligence in Qatar: Current R&D Activities and Challenges” organized by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). This seminar aimed to highlight AI and its practical applications in Qatar through the presentation of some promising projects that illustrated their integrated role in providing advanced digital services and developing strategies to improve the standard of living in Qatar.
