Relevance to UREP Research:

The article discusses the issues that arouse with the artworks (Head Butt installed in corniche and “The Miraculous Journey”)  against the public’s opinions.

The article talks about the unveiling of “The Miraculous Journey” and how it provoked the minds of some people in Qatar. This spectacular artwork is placed in front of the Sidra women and children’s hospital. Sheika-al-Mayassa calls it less daring than having a lot of nudity. She added “There is a verse in the Koran about the miracle of birth. It is not against our culture or our religion.” To emphasize this point the article mentioned Adel Abdelsemmed’s artwork on Zidane’s head butt with Materazzi which allegedly offended the religious sensibility.  However, Sheika-al-Mayassa believes that behind these controversies it is important for people to discuss these topics whether they approve or not.

Through this article, taking a gamble on artworks placed in public spaces can lead to mixed reactions from public and certain groups.

  1. Hey fantastic blog! Does running a blog such as this take a large amount of work? I’ve absolutely no understanding of coding but I had been hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyway, should you have any ideas or tips for new blog owners please share. I know this is off topic but I just wanted to ask. Cheers!

  2. Have you ever thought about writing an ebook or guest authoring on other sites? I have a blog based upon on the same topics you discuss and would really like to have you share some stories/information. I know my audience would appreciate your work. If you are even remotely interested, feel free to send me an e-mail.

  3. Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you know a few of the images aren’t loading properly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different web browsers and both show the same outcome.

  4. Its like you learn my mind! You seem to grasp a lot approximately this, such as you wrote the e book in it or something. I think that you simply could do with a few p.c. to drive the message house a little bit, however instead of that, this is fantastic blog. An excellent read. I’ll definitely be back.
