SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BEACH HOUSE – BY RICHARD MEIER
Architect: Richard Meier
Year: 1999-2001
Location: USA, California
Style: Contemporary
Form: Geometrical
Texture: Smooth
Color: White
Materials: Glazing and concrete, painted aluminium exterior wall panels, stainless steel for railing.
Climate: Southern California has a Mediterranean climate, the influence of the ocean moderates its temperature extremes.
Principles: Openness and Clarity. Harmony of lights and shade. Exploration of solid, void, light, and texture.
Landscape: The south of the beach house is facing the sea. The north is facing the walkway, and there is a courtyard in the west of the beach house
Sustainability: The shading devices: do not need air conditioning. Big windows = use sun light instead of electricity.
Quote by Richard Meier “White is the most wonderful color, because within it you can see all the colors of the rainbow. The whiteness of white is never just white; it is almost always transformed by light and that which is changing; the sky, the clouds, the sun and the moon.”
