This mixed-use residential and cultural center project included a brief to design and celebrate the importance of the manufacture of silk synonymous with this area of China.
The landscape concept for this competition proposal was based on the cultural and trade history of the Silk Road. An ‘Ethnobotanical’ (study of culture through plants) trail along a circular path which passes through ancient China, India, Persia, Syria and Rome was proposed to highlight the importance of the silk industry to China.
The countries on the Ethnobotanical trail would be represented by screens showing botanical drawings of local planting, planting, poems and cultural references.
