The value of the High Line:

The high line story started with the importance of the old railroad which is around 1.5 mile long, running throw three historic districts. The Co- founders felt that this high line worth a lot and it should be reused and preserved.

Reuse and preserving of the High Line:

The community was not supportive at the beginning. Everyone wanted to demolish the High Line, the community, the developer, and the city. Because it stopped many changes and development in the district.

Involve media & community

It was clear that many in the High Line community recognized the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a public place unlike any other in the world. The design process began with an Open Ideas Competition, in 2003. All 720 entries were made available to the public, and response to the ideas helped shape the design process.

The design welcomes visitors with its wild, self-seeded landscape, over 210 species that grew up naturally on the High Line when the trains stopped running in 1980. It retains the original railroad tracks from the industrial structure and restored steel elements.
