Due to the current situation and the spread of COVID-19, we have been forced to apply several changes in the project. We are supposed to finish hardware system implementation and then prepare the drone for testing the application over one of Doha’s towers to collect data. But, since the classes are suspended suddenly, and we used to work and get everything in the SDP Laboratory, we couldn’t finish implementing the hardware as required, and flying the drone is now impossible as well. As a result, what we have done is to focus more on developing Android mobile application and connect it with the components that remained with us to collect the required data and make it more reliable and user friendly. On the other side, for the effect on the hardware implementation we decided to have some minor changes, for example, we are supposed to send sensors data to the database using cellular networks, but we now send it to the database over Wi-Fi through Arduino IDE and ESP32 microcontroller, which will be replaced with the 4G stick as shown in the flowchart below.
In addition to what was earlier mentioned, we have a very small number of images captured from the Lepton 2.5 thermal module before the suspension, so we used them for image processing in MATLAB, and the output has been sent from MATLAB to Firebase. Furthermore, being in the campus working in the project is much more productive, since the surrounding environment motivates the students to work together and help each other. Also, when any student faces a problem in any part of the project, especially, hardware issues, it is easier to reach professors and engineers and explain the problem to them face to face, so the problem can be solved faster.
