ECMO cannulation is a complex and high-risk procedure that requires a high level of training to obtain and maintain the ability of saving people lives. Therefore, non-technical factors such as teamwork, communication, situation awareness and decision making are equally important for keeping ECMO patient’s safe. Hence, providing a powerful tool for training is such a useful way to reduce the risk upon ECMO patient. In this report, a neonatal ECMO cannulation simulator has been designed, to help ECMO specialists to be fully trained under several situations and different scenarios that could happened in real surgeries. Providing a realistic simulator that represents the cannulation process accurately is the most important approach for ECMO specialists and trainees, to let them experience the real experiment and to take accurate and precise actions immediately. The aim of this project is to design an effective, economical realistic, user-friendly, low-cost, and a high-fidelity neonatal ECMO cannulation simulator for HMC. Furthermore, the proposed system was designed based on the project constraints, HMC requirements, and the information collected and summarized by the team members. Additionally, the team had some visits to HMC and hence, formulated a survey to distribute to the doctors there, in order to collect more information about the final product to satisfy the client’s desired.

The design presented in this report need to be completed in terms of implementation, testing and validation stages, in order to have the final design prototype of the neonatal ECMO cannulation simulator. The final prototype of the neonatal ECMO cannulation simulator was expected to be done without the interruption of the sudden pandemic that the world is facing nowadays.
