Phase-modular Systems_FG4

The phase-modular system was constructed by employing three single-phase modules in an Input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) connection using isolated SEPIC converter. This design increase the redundancy and reliability of the system. The block diagram is shown below

Results:

SEPIC converters provide a single-switch stage converter, as compared to the cascaded Boost-Buck, which is better in terms of the number of components, size, and it also has better performance capabilities. Phase-modular systems provide optimal and better performance from many aspects; the first is the modularity, where modules of stages are used instead of one full-block for the converter. The second aspect is the redundancy and ride-through capabilities within the system. All those aspects are  beneficial because if one element is faulty, the single module can be replaced instead of the whole system. Hence, they increase the reliability of the system.
