Blood flow_FG3

To simulate the blood flow through the artificial blood vessels, a thermochromic ink (which is a liquid substance that has a special feature of changing its colour due to the change of the surrounding temperature) will be used to represent the oxygenated and the deoxygenated blood. Since the heart grow a different velocity of the blood flow, an artificial blood circulation system has been developed by using two programmed pumps. The programmed pumps will simulate two types of blood flow, laminar flow and pulsatile flow. The laminar flow is the stable movement of the blood without any commotions. However, the pulsatile flow is the fluctuating movement of the blood with some periodically changes depending on the heartbeat [17]. In the proposed design, two different types of pumping mechanisms are required as can be clearly shown in Figure 3-2, laminar flow pumping and pulsatile flow pumping. A laminar flow pump aiding the simulation of blood flow through the veins and a pulsatile flow pump aiding the simulation of blood flow through the arteries. Moreover, the flow meters have been used to measure the blood flow rate for the proposed design.
