PLC Controlled Automatic Bottle Filling System

Supervised By: Dr. Nader Meskin

Done By: Firas Alkhaiat – Khaled Osman – Mohamed Hamoud

Automation in the industry is needed for increasing production, improving quality, reducing manufacturing cost, and having more flexibility. PLC plays an important role in automation control, which reduces complexity, improves production rates, and is cost-effective. In this project, an automatic bottle filling system with a PLC control system was designed and implemented. The system has five inputs and six outputs. Both hardware and software implementation were conducted including the design of all necessary components. Siemens PLC S7-1200 was selected for this project as per the requirements needed. The practical implementation included the design of conveyor belt, solenoid valve, liquid pump, level and photoelectric sensors, and other essential components. The software implementation included the design of the ladder logic diagram for the whole bottle filling process, using the complementing PLCSim V15.1 software for Siemens PLCs. The software implementation was successfully designed and verified on the simulator. The practical implementation was unfortunately not fully verified due to the current unfortunate circumstances with the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. Other alternatives were looked upon to improve overall design, this included the option of bottle capping, the design of a mobile application for the system to monitor production rates, and the design of a professional website for the project.
