Recently the automotive industry has made its way to EVs, the credit for that goes back to all benefits that come with this shift. The first advantage is that it reduces the environmental harm that is produced by cars that run on fossil fuel which will be depleted in the world. Furthermore, there is an economic advantage due to the low maintenance cost for EVs compared to normal cars since it does not need an oil change or any frequent maintenance. So, with all these advantages comes the need to improve the technology from all relevant aspects, and perhaps the most important one is the charger of EV batteries. There are two types of battery chargers the onboard and the off-board. The industry has developed several techniques for charging EV batteries. The technology still has some room for improvement through research such as in the bi-directional charger which is suitable for a smart grid to be used. Bi-directional battery charger if considered using off-board criterion this will introduce physical problems regarding the charging area for EVs. Therefore, the development of low cost, reliable, compact, and efficient exchange of power between the EVs and the grid is the primary goal of this design project.
